About OGa

Our Mission
Our mission is to establish digital rails that pave the way for extensive digital commerce across diverse sectors. In doing so, we aim to unlock abundant local entrepreneurship opportunities throughout The Gambia, utilizing a comprehensive countrywide Open Network.

In the past two decades, digital transformation has reshaped the business landscape worldwide, with smartphones and technology playing a pivotal role in this shift. Even in Gambia, this transformation is underway, with the widespread adoption of smartphones and digital platforms like Whatsapp and Facebook. However, African economies, including Gambia, have largely remained informal and cash-based. There is a growing aspiration to use technology to make services more accessible, affordable, and equitable, mirroring the developments in more developed nations.

In this context, the OGa aims to turn digital transformation and innovation into a reality. It is founded on the principle that the benefits of technology should be accessible to all, rather than a privilege reserved for a select few. Leveraging the high smartphone penetration in the country, OGa's goal is to pioneer a future for e-commerce in developing countries that is more inclusive, organized, and digitized, built on open protocols from the outset, rather than relying on global platforms that can create exclusion and dependency.

OGa's initial focus is on the retail sector, ensuring every business, small or big, can offer services and transact digitally. Enabled by the Beckn Protocol, we aim to facilitate discovery of services, service fulfillment, and payments within this network.

The eRetail Pilot, commencing on December 2nd, 2023, marks the first step towards our vision. As OGa showcases its transformative potential in retail, we anticipate wider adoption with more network participants and sectors added in 2024. Sectors such as skilling & employment, mobility, hospitality, and healthcare are envisioned to join, expanding the network's reach and benefits. Join us in reshaping the digital landscape of the Gambia.
